
The Center for Whale Research is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to serve as Education Ambassadors at our Outreach and Education Center. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy engaging with the public, have an interest in marine science and conservation, and want to help visitors better understand the remarkable ecosystem of the Salish Sea.
As an Education Ambassador, you will serve as a welcoming and knowledgeable representative of the Center for Whale Research, helping guests connect with our mission through conversation, educational programming, and community outreach.

What does an Education Ambassador do?

Welcome visitors to the Outreach and Education Center and help create a friendly, inclusive experience.

Engage guests in conversations about Southern Resident killer whales, marine mammals, and the Salish Sea ecosystem.

Share information about the Center for Whale Research’s work, conservation efforts, and ongoing impact.

Support educational displays, programming, community events, and outreach tables.

Assist with gift shop sales, the Square point-of-sale system, and light administrative tasks.

Before you apply

To help Education Ambassadors receive meaningful training and experience, we typically ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 12 hours per month, with shifts typically lasting 3–4 hours. We also ask for a minimum commitment of two months following training.

This role may involve standing for extended periods, moving and setting up outreach materials or displays, lifting light to moderate loads of around 20 pounds, and occasionally working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

This position focuses on public education and community outreach. It does not include research activities, fieldwork, or time on the water with whales.
