Dear Supporter,
In this season of giving, the Center for Whale Research team has set its sights on an ambitious financial goal: Raise $74,000 or more by the end of the 2021 calendar year.
The $74,000 represents one thousand dollars for each member of the Southern Resident orca community. This money—your generous donations—will allow us to plan and execute our 2022 research, outreach and education, and advocacy initiatives, to continue our five-decade-long quest to document, better understand, and protect the Southern Resident orcas—as well as their primary prey, natural wild Chinook salmon.
In addition to our imperative research, we will persist as advocates for additional action to restore wild Chinook salmon stocks in the Pacific Northwest. Without further measures, like removing the Lower Snake River dams and other salmon blockades that prevent millions and millions more salmon from returning to these rivers to spawn, the intelligent, social, and caring Southern Resident orcas are FACING EXTINCTION!

Balcomb BIG SALMON Ranch along the Elwha River is an example of a Center for Whale Research undertaking to achieve Chinook salmon renewal. (See other CWR Recent Accomplishments). As we close our 45th anniversary year of the Orca Survey (1976-2021), we are heart warmed and saddened. We’ve seen births and deaths and have come to know many of our beloved Southern Resident orcas. We’ve celebrated one milestone after another.
