THANK YOU for caring so much about the gravely endangered Southern Resident orcas and the overall health of the ocean in the Pacific Northwest, that you've chosen to become a Center for Whale Research (CWR) MEMBER.

Your TAX-DEDUCTIBLE MEMBERSHIP goes directly to supporting CWR's FIVE DECADES OF RESEARCH of the iconic Southern Resident orcas and empowering educational outreach about this iconic species, while continually defending and speaking for this population of highly-intelligent and sensitive animals that cannot speak for themselves.

The orcas require your help like never before.

STUDYING THE SOUTHERN RESIDENT ORCAS

The Center for Whale Research’s (CWR) scientists, staff, and volunteers—with your financial support—have studied the Southern Resident and Bigg’s/Transient orcas in the Pacific Northwest for FIVE DECADES. In addition, we’ve continuously advocated for the best interests of the gravely endangered Southern Resident orcas. And we’ve poured our hearts and souls into educating thousands and thousands of people about both orca ecotypes.

Ken Balcomb and the Center for Whale Research team’s commitment to these iconic marine mammals persists today. Our primary goal in 2021 is to continue our important orca studies while at the same time informing decision-makers to make choices for the benefit of the Southern Residents: providing our whales with more wild Chinook salmon in a healthier ocean environment.

To celebrate our 45-year milestone and continued work, we have compiled several historic orca moments in this issue of the WHALE Report for your pleasure and knowledge. Enjoy.
