J pod and a portion of the L12 subpod (L25, L41, L77, L94) were observed from shore just south of the Center for Whale Research in tight groups moving slowly north. The whales were very close to shore and appeared to be in a resting pattern. Staff from the Center departed Snug Harbor to observe the whales and document the individuals present. The whales remained in tight groups throughout the encounter and staff left the pods at the mouth of Swanson Channel as they continued to move north.
