J pod and three members of L pod (L7, L53, and L57) were sighted traveling north past the Center for Whale Research around 7:30 a.m. , June 20, 2008. The Center staff responded to the sighting and
encountered whales at 8:45 just off the Center. The whales were traveling at a medium speed in tight groups spread out. A lot of surface activity was observed including breaching, lunging, porpoising, and tail lobbing. The encounter ended at 11:53 a.m. at the mouth of Mitchell Bay
