Encounter # 49 • August 3 • J, K and L87

Departed Snug Harbor: 12:51 p.m.
Begin Encounter: 1:09 p.m.
Start Lat: 48° 37.20 N
Start Long: 123° 13.33 W
End Encounter: 2:28 p.m.
End Lat: 48° 42.25 N
End Long: 123° 14.64 W
Returned to Snug Harbor: 3:30 p.m.

Observers: Dave Ellifrit, Erin Heydenreich and Emma Foster

The encounter began a mile and a half west of Spieden Island. J's and K's were traveling north in tight groups. The whales began to spread out once they passed Turn Point and were starting to head up Boundary Pass. The encounter ended about 2 miles northeast of Turn Point, with the whales spread out in small groups heading up Swanson Channel. the whales seen were:K21,K40,K16's, J2, J8, L87, J14's, K14's, K12's, K13's, J16's, J17's and the J22's.
