2009 Calves It has been a prolific year. Zero losses, five gains. We are of course speaking about the number of calves born into our SRKW community so far this year. Five in total, most recently J46 (first seen November 11, 2009), L113, J45, J44, and the first of the year, L112. J pod is the most watched family of whales in the Pacific Northwest, or perhaps in the world, and this is the first year in recent decades that they have produced three babies within one year. We will all be watching carefully and respectfully to see if they beat the odds and all survive. J46 and J44 with their family
