Transients

Encounter #004 • February 23, 2009 • Transients off Victoria waterfront

Ken Balcomb, Mark Malleson and Rhonda Reidy encountered a large group of Transient whales inbound off the Victoria waterfront near Trial Island and travelled with them to Haro Strait. T87 is the large male in the background with the rectangular nick near the tip of the fin on the trailing edge; and T90 is the female in the foreground. Also present were: T100's, T101's, T124's, and the T124A's, for a total of 19 whales! When they passed Beaumont Shoals and headed up Haro Strait they broke into two groups and headed north before one of the groups turned back south.
