After receiving a report of J's,K's and L's heading east from Race Rocks in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Center staff encountered J's and K's spread out in tight groups off Trial Island, B.C. There were various reports of L's further west earlier in the day. At 1:30 p.m. we left the J's and K's at Discovery Island B.C. and headed west looking for L's. We made it out to Becher Bay before we turned around, concluding that the reported L's had turned west. We encountered a Minke whale 1 mile west of Race Rocks. On the return trip to Snug Harbor we encountered J's, K's and L87 traveling up the west side of San Juan Island. The encounter ended at 5:36 p.m. southwest of Spieden Channel.
