After documenting a very spread out J-pod pass the Center for Whale Research Thursday morning (June 7, 2007) staff boarded the research vessel Orca to collect identification photos of the whales. The encounter began with J16 and J26 pushing the newest member of J-pod (J42) through the water, giving us yet another confirmation that the baby was indeed a female. Towards the end of the encounter the pod grouped up and stuck close to the shore, providing beautiful photo opportunities, but not ideal identification conditions. Staff left Jpod traveling northbound at Turn Point.
